Tems, The Rising Star

From landing a spot as one of the artists featured in the Coca-Cola campaign released earlier this year, to being nominated at the BET Awards and winning the ‘Best International Act’ and ‘Best Collaboration’, performing at the Glastonbury festival alongside Burna Boy and Femi Kuti, gracing fans with a captivating performance at Somerset House and of course having features on some of your favourite artists projects; Beyonce, Future…. However, the cherry on the top of the 2022 mid-year cake. A feature on the Wakanda Forever Prologue EP.

Watching Tems grow from height to height, year in year out has further solidified the fact that she is walking in purpose and displayed the importance of what it means to embrace the uniqueness of our beings. In her Up Next documentary released last year with her EP ‘If Orange Was A Place ’, she makes reference to the tone and sound of her voice as well as the insecurities that accompanied using the normal texture of her voice.

“Maybe i should just use my falsetto voice"

I think I speak for all of us when I say I’m really glad she didn’t use her falsetto voice and chose to serenade our ears, hit after hit with her natural texture as that is one of the many things we love about Tems.

Speaking more personally on this, there is a sense of motivation that comes with seeing her growth, a more realistic sense of motivation that takes away the fear of taking that first step to what may seem like a daunting path, towards our true purpose. The people she surrounds herself with, her inner circle have all contributed one way or the other to this growth and it is only upwards from here.

What’s in store next for Tems? Wouldn’t we all like to know.
