This week on Art With Deeds, we’re excited to spotlight the soul-stirring work of Zandra Jack (unkwnzj), a multidisciplinary artist whose work explores Caribbean culture and Black identities through digital and mixed media. Zandra’s art invites us to reimagine beauty, identity, and the stories we tell about power, especially as they relate to Black and Caribbean femininity.
Zandra’s latest project is an ode to the energy and resilience of the Caribbean, its colors, sounds, fashion, and unshakable pride. Inspired by the everyday confidence and joy she witnesses in her community, her work leans into maximalism: bold visuals, exaggerated forms, and intricate textures that mirror the cultural vibrancy of the spaces she’s emerged from. It’s art that celebrates without apology.
Her creative journey began early. “I’ve been creating since I was a kid,” she shares. “But it really became a focused path when I studied visual arts in high school and earned a diploma in graphic design.” In 2020, Zandra transitioned into digital and mixed-media art by teaching herself and then sharing her work online. The response was encouraging, and slowly, her art found a home with audiences who saw themselves in her themes and admired her visual voice.
Zandra’s creative process is rooted in emotion. Each piece begins with a feeling, a memory, or even a song, something sensory that acts as a compass. She gathers visual references, sketching ideas before moving into full creation. Her pieces are often marked by exaggeration, surrealism, and softness, depending on the emotion she's exploring. “I love creating a sense of power, mystery, or vulnerability in a subject,” she says. “It’s really about telling a story that feels honest.”
Among her growing portfolio, one piece stands out as particularly meaningful: STILL IN LOVE. This digital portrait draws deeply from early 2000s dancehall and reggae culture, echoing the era’s fashion, energy, and emotional openness. It feels nostalgic yet current, a visual time capsule of raw femininity and cultural pride. “It’s personal,” Zandra reflects, “but also feels like it belongs to a wider moment and memory.”
Looking ahead, Zandra is gearing up for an exciting new project: her debut one-night art exhibition in Toronto titled ENZI. ENZI is an immersive celebration of creativity and community. The evening will feature a curated selection of her favorite works, a live DJ spinning music that shaped her artistic lens, a photo booth, and interactive stations where guests can create custom merch inspired by Zandra’s art. “It’s about creating a shared experience,” she explains. “I want people to leave feeling seen, inspired, and connected.”
As 2025 unfolds, Zandra Jack stands as one of the most exciting visual voices redefining how we think about culture, identity, and creative expression. Through every brushstroke, pixel, and emotion, she invites us into a world where beauty is bold, identity is celebrated, and art is always in conversation with the communities that birth it.
