Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif announced Sun Sherif Vol. 1, Friday,with a post on X. "Thank You for Your Love & Patience," a note accompanied the post, with the EP confirmed to arrive September 4.

Since his breakthrough moment with "First Sermon" and "Second Sermon" in 2021, Black Sherif has moved through artistic personas deliberately — Blacko, Iron Boy, and now Sun Sherif. 

Back in 2022, the world got the first chapter of Black Sherif’s artistry in his debut album The Villain I Never Was. The storytelling was centered on a young artist from the gold-rich city of Konongo processing pain, identity and ambition. His 2025 sophomore, Iron Boy, pushed that plot further, focusing on someone who is learning to protect what he is building. The album featured Seyi Vibez, and Fireboy DML.  Since then, Black Sherif has also collaborated with Davido on his recent ORIADÉ album, expanding his ties with the Nigerian scene.  

Now, Sun Sherif reads like the other side of Iron Boy. This title suggests something warm, ambitious and magnetic.Whether the music delivers that same quality is a question September 4 will answer.

The "Vol. 1" framing signals something beyond a standard EP release. Black Sherif is building in installments, which for an artist who has released two albums and an EP in four years suggests he has found a creative rhythm he is not willing to slow down for a longer gap. At 24, Black Sherif is one of the most compelling figures in West African music.  Sun Sherif Vol. 1 arrives with no massive pre-release campaign, just an announcement and a date.
