#ARTWITHDEEDS: Inside the World of David Nnogo

Authored by

This week on Art With DEEDS, we turn the spotlight to David Nnogo, a young visionary whose art is driven not by the need for a grand narrative, but by the joy of execution and the thrill of visual problem-solving. His latest work, inspired by the GTA VI trailer, is a prime example of his spontaneous and process-focused approach. “Not every artwork needs to carry a deep message,” he says. “Sometimes I just want to bring an idea or look to life. It’s more about the process for me.”

David’s relationship with drawing began at the age of four and deepened through his childhood love of comic books. By eight, he was not only consuming stories but creating his own characters and worlds. His early discovery of Pinterest exposed him to a wide spectrum of global art styles, which he didn’t see as competition, but motivation. “Seeing artists a thousand times better than me didn’t discourage me, it made me want to catch up. I love a good challenge.”

This mindset is evident in his meticulous creative process. Each piece begins as a vivid mental image, sometimes fully formed in a day, other times refined over weeks. From that initial spark, David moves into sketching and building out the work using custom charcoal brushes (some of which he designed himself), carefully layering each element in a way that brings both clarity and texture to the final composition.

Color and texture are central to David’s style. He layers hues based on the visual hierarchy of objects and uses textures sourced from his surroundings to soften and enrich his illustrations. The result? Work that feels tactile, dynamic, and alive. “Sometimes the finished piece turns out even better than I imagined. That’s the magic.”

Despite his growing body of work, David resists picking favorites. “It’s like choosing a favorite child,” he jokes. “Each one means something different.”

Currently, he’s deep in development on several personal projects: a collaborative magazine with a designer and the early stages of a manga-inspired comic book. With a deep respect for world-building and a love for intricate detail, David Nnogo is carving out a space that sits at the intersection of imagination and intention.

His journey reminds us that sometimes, the idea doesn’t need to be perfect, what matters most is the act of bringing it to life.
