With an impressive line-up of multiple luxurious and streetwear brands both national and international and an even more impressive guest list, the shows put together this fashion week have been a delight to see.

The likes of brands such as Kenzo, Dior, Saint Laurent, Givenchy and many more named brands worked up a storm of show-stopping designs at this year’s Paris Men’s Fashion Week.

Amidst all the noise, the spotlight is on Nigerian-owned streetwear brand Ashluxe founded and creative directed by Yinka Ash, which debuted its AW23 collection in a Showroom set-up.

This collection provides elegance with a hint of edge. The use of bold colours brings the desire to own at least one outfit from the collection. The attention to detail is impeccable, especially with the representation of Benin Art as a patch on the Varsity Jackets.

We had the opportunity of speaking with Yinka, and got some insight into the inspiration behind the collection.

A nod to black excellence and inspired by the Harlem renaissance, this collection examines the bold colours and flamboyant details, characteristics of African DNA and forming the foundation of 20s Harlem fashion; a movement defined by the reality of a lost past, a struggle for identity birthing the dream of a better day. This period is considered the golden age of African American culture, manifesting in literature, music, stage performance and art.

Evoking imagery of a young Josephine Baker and the Cabaret scene synonymous with the Harlem Renaissance, this collection features sheer flowing silhouettes, maxi hems, satirical labelling and elevated tailoring.

Drawing from the Art Deco movement of the same era, we find bold geometric patterns and rich colour ways infused with the brands signature staples such as; the zig-zag graphic and nationalistic Nigerian green colour way.
