New York Fashion Week isn't just about the runways. It's the sidewalks, the corners, the whole energy of the city. For SS26, Deeds took it to the streets with creator @simplyravinnush, spotting bold looks and the voices behind them.
We asked New Yorkers and visitors to play "5 Looks, 5 Answers"—matching their fits with their style philosophies. Shot by @prodxmalizee, we caught up with @honeyspliff, @chocodamix, @lyssamariexo, @msselenahill, @slimjxmmi, @toyin.png, and @socoldtreezy.
When we asked about must-watch designers, we got everything from runway royalty to Brooklyn independents. Toyin named Jane Wade and Kim Shui—"her runways are very inspiring." Selena said Kim Shui too, which tracks.
Slim Jxmmi kept it refreshingly honest: "I don't have none. I'm here for the vibes. This is my first time just coming to enjoy the vibes and I'm just seeing all the drip. New York got a lot of drip." That captured something essential about fashion week, not everyone comes with a designer checklist. Some people come for the energy, the community, the chance to witness style as a living, breathing thing.
Honey Spliff gave love to Versace Noir. Damix shouted out Romeo Hunte, then added, "Strictly Dope, Steven, he's an upcoming designer and I'm walking for his show tomorrow." That's how it works: designers and style voices supporting each other in real time.
Ask any New Yorker about their styling philosophy and you'll get ten different answers, all correct. Toyin said it's all about wearing denim. Selena went maximalist: "Accessories. Always accessorize. More is more." Alyssa described the high-low mix: "Baggy, anything with some heels." But the most New York answer? Damix said "Timbs and white tees." Slim Jxmmi co-signed immediately: "Yeah, people just pop out with their Timbs, man."
Visually, one color dominated: blue. It wasn't planned, but somehow blue became the unofficial color of NYFW SS26 on the streets. We saw structure come back too: sharp blazers, architectural cuts, power dressing that felt personal. Accessories told whole stories. Fuzzy white mini bags, gold bangles stacked high, sunglasses that framed attitude.
Traditional fashion coverage focuses on the shows, the collections, the industry machinery. But the actual cultural impact happens in moments like these, when Slim Jxmmi comes from Mississippi rocking Dickies in Manhattan, showing up just for the vibes. is style as language, as community, as the thing that happens when a city full of creative people decides to show up and show out. Street Style Diaries exists to amplify those voices.
